Opened in October 2009, the Gallery Cafe is the newest foreign-run cafe in Kashgar. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to travelers of every kind. Since we ourselves have come to Kashgar to explore and soak in an authentic Central Asian experience, we are happy to help you do the same. We offer home style food and drinks and a comfortable atmosphere for you to rest while you plan your next adventure. We also provide reliable tourist information and can book tours and tickets with experienced local guides and travel agencies. Last but not least, our gallery is here to showcase the talent of a variety of artists, which we welcome you to enjoy. Feel free to contact us with any inquiries about Kashgar (map) or the surrounding area. Soon after we opened we enjoyed the visit of CBS news correspondent Terry McCarthy. Here is his report on the silk road.
About Kashgar
The true center of Kashgar is the intersection of Renmin Lu and Jiefang Lu, known as Da Shi Zi. Walking east of there you will find People's Square (Renmin Guangchang) which is adjacent to the large and shady People's Park. Take Jiefang Lu to the north of Da Shi Zi to reach the square in front of Id Kah Mosque and it's surrounding bazaars. A labyrinth of alleyways and adobe homes that make up the old town are also found in this area.
The Tuman River flows from the north-west of Kashgar and skirts the east of the old town before curving south and feeding the East Lake (Dong Hu). The lake and river has been given a face lift in 2009 and is now surrounded by spacious parks. At the northern end of the lake, Kashgar's largest bridge is decorated by a Ferris Wheel and a view of some of the more conspicuous parts of the old town. The Sunday Bazaar is just across the river to the north-east of the city.
Don't forget to visit the livestock market, where locals bargain for the best deal.
